European Solidarity Convoy for Cuba Sets Off from Belgium Denouncing US Stranglehold

The initiative will travel across the continent under the slogans “Let Cuba Breathe” and “Europe, Wake Up.” They condemned Washington’s energy blockade and sanctions policy against the island.

Luxembourg Square in Brussels, located in Belgium across from the European Parliament, became the setting where the activities of the European convoy of solidarity with Cuba began on Wednesday, June 10. Despite the cold weather and rain throughout the day, more than a hundred people gathered in this space to express their support for the island and reject the suffocating policies applied by the U.S. government.

The rally brought together a diverse group of participants, including social activists, MEPs, Belgian parliamentarians, intellectuals, Cubans living abroad, political and union leaders, along with a delegation from the solidarity movement in Italy.

During the gathering in the square, they delivered speeches condemning Washington’s energy blockade and sanctions policy, highlighting the impact these measures have on the daily lives of the Cuban people.

At that forum, intellectuals and activists demanded an institutional statement and condemnation from the European Union regarding the U.S. strategy toward the Caribbean nation, which they described as a genocidal policy.

Following Wednesday’s events in the Belgian capital, the convoy will continue its itinerary on Thursday, to Paris, where a demonstration is planned in front of the French National Assembly.
