Venezuelans, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Elena Rendiles will be canonized by Pope Leo XIV on October 19.
In three days Venezuela will experience a significant moment in its religious and cultural history: the canonization of its first two saints, Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez and Mother Carmen Elena Rendiles. The solemn ceremony will take place at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, presided over by Pope Leo XIV, marking a recognition in the spiritual life of the nation by elevating these two revered Venezuelans to the universal altar of the Catholic Church, all the while the Venezuelan people are being menaced by an armada of US warships off their shores and B-52 bombers flying overhead. Beneath the deceptive shroud of the “war on drugs,” the United States is actively executing a blueprint for military intervention in Venezuela, employing lethal force and projecting power in a manner that legal institutions and regional leaders have condemned as a profound threat to international order. This aggression is not a law enforcement operation; it is the negation of law, a neocolonial revival of the Monroe Doctrine, designed to shatter the sovereignty of Venezuela, seize control of the world’s largest oil reserves, and install a compliant regime. On Monday, Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry announced that it has begun the first phase of a comprehensive restructuring of its foreign service, ordering the closure of its embassies in the Kingdom of Norway and Australia.“As part of the strategic reallocation of resources, the closure of the embassies in the Kingdom of Norway and Australia has been ordered,” the ministry said in a statement.
