The agreement announced by US President Donald Trump on 28th August brings more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan reserves into a partnership that Trump says gives the American side “majority control,” while Venezuela’s interim government, led by Delcy Rodríguez, insists the 25-year deal preserves national sovereignty. Few people in the world have done more to discredit the State of Israel and fan the flames of anti-Semitism than Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir. Of course, he is not alone in this endeavor. His words resonate loudly over the corpses of more than 70,000 Palestinian victims—mostly women and children—caused by the policies of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and land theft carried out by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. In this tragic endeavor, it must be said, the genocidal regime counts on military, financial, and propaganda support from the U.S. government and those of the European Union, with a few honorable exceptions. Donald Trump extended the TWEA’s authority over Cuba until 2027
Some laws have been around for a long, tedious time.
On August 20, Donald Trump once again invoked legislation dating back more than a century by extending the provisions of the Trading with the Enemy Act (TWEA) applicable to Cuba through September 14, 2027. The executive order did not impose a new sanction. It did something worse: it kept in place a legal exception dating back to 1917. (more…)
