On Monday, Bolivian Prosecutors filed a criminal charge against Jeanine Añez for the “Senkata Massacre”, a case in which the leader of the coup-born administration can receive up to 30 years in prison for crimes of genocide, homicide and serious injuries. (more…)

“El Alto on his feet, never on his knees!” is a slogan that reflects the combative character of the inhabitants of this indigenous Aymara city in Bolivia, which since 2003, has shaped the country’s history. This city led the uprising against the privatization of natural resources in 2003, and then the defense of democracy in the face of the 2019 coup. Both struggles resulted in numerous massacres against those of El Alto who stood up to defend the country. (more…)

Bolivia: Camacho Playing the Victim Now that Justice has Caught up with Him

2022 ended in Bolivia with a complex political scenario. On December 28, National Police forces arrested Santa Cruz Province governor Luis Fernando Camacho after an arrest warrant was issued against him almost two months ago, based on his direct involvement of the 2019 coup d’état. He is also at least partially responsible for the Sacaba and Senkata massacres, where law enforcement officers killed 20 Bolivians by gunshots. (more…)
