BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong met today with Cuban Minister of Interior Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas in Beijing.

Noting that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Cuba, Wang, also a member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China is willing to work with Cuba to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two parties and the two countries, further solidify the ministerial meeting mechanism, enhance personnel exchanges and law enforcement capacity building, deepen practical cooperation in law enforcement and security, safeguard the security and interests of the two countries, and make greater contributions to the building of a closer China-Cuba community with a shared future.

Alvarez, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, expressed Cuba’s willingness to further enhance coordination and cooperation with China to jointly address security risks and challenges.

Bolivia’s left lost big in Sunday’s election, and a lot of the analysis in progressive circles has focused solely on the feud between former president Evo Morales and sitting president, Luis Arce. Morales was barred from running in the elections by Arce’s government and subsequently called for a null or blank vote in the contest. On Sunday, August 17, two right-wing candidates, Rodrigo Paz and Jorge Quiroga, emerged victorious, and they will proceed to the second round in October. (more…)

When we read about war, it is disconnected from our lives, and many of us want to stop listening to anything about the human misery caused by weapons or by sanctions.
